The Winter olympics are starting soon. There are some winter sports that are really cool and then there are some that just don’t make sense. One that comes to mind is Curling. I don’t get it? You take a big thing that looks like a rock, and throw it down the ice. Then a few guys take what look like mop handles and try to get it to go farther. I’m sorry curling fans, but what’s the use. Is this a big northern thing? Do high schools compete with each other? Does each high school have a cool airbrushed “rock”? The funny thing is, that I will probably watch it when its on and find myself cheering for the fat guy from the U.S.
This brings me to my next sport…..SURFING!!!!! How is this NOT a sport in the Olympics? Surfing is one of the oldest sports on the planet. It is something that you can do from the time you can stand. There are also organizations out there now helping people enjoy surf that are confined to wheelchairs. Those people are great. If you want surfing to be an Olympic sport….SPEAK UP!!!!! And yes, I can go to my local surf shop and get a new board and other cool gear (Hammerhead). Can you go to your local “Rock” shop?

Last Week, I had the opportunity to attend the Surf Expo in Orlando. This is a trade show for the surf and skate industry. There were so many companies to see and people to meet. One of the coolest displays was the SUP pool. SUP is short for Stand Up Paddleboarding. This will be the number one thing on my Christmas list this year…Is it only January?? The attendance was up from last year. Does this mean a turn around in the economy? Time will only tell. I talked to many business owners both from big corporate companies and smaller ones like Hammerhead. I feel that this year can be a turning point for a better future. We will be working hard this year to bring you the most unique shirts and accessories. The next time you are in your local shop, ask them if they carry Hammerhead. We are not looking to be in every mall and big chain store in the world. With the help of social media, we are gaining a fan base from around the world at a quick pace.

The other day my family and I went to the beach. Before we put our towels down, I had to pick up the trash that was left by the people before us. I put the soda cans in a spare bag to recycle when we got home, and the other garbage was put in a public trash can….not more than 50 feet away. Did you pick up someone else’s trash, or were you the one who left it for the next person? We could all do our part to make this world a better place. I ask that you recycle as much as you can.
